Kaz Johnson-Salami is a multidisciplinary artist based in Lagos, Nigeria, whose work spans pencil, pen, paint, photography, and uniquely illustrated 3D collectible items. With a foundational diploma in Art and Design from Central St. Martins College and a BA in Graphic and Media Design from the London College of Communication, Kaz blends formal education with a heartfelt commitment to storytelling through visual expression.

Kaz’s work is characterised by a profound exploration of human emotions and lived experiences. At its core lies a passion for telling the stories of individuals who dream of becoming more than the sum of their circumstances—those who dare to rise above the limitations imposed by their environments. His art reflects recurring themes of hope, redemption, and triumph over adversity, grounded in the belief that life’s pressures can be overcome through faith.

A key element of Kaz’s visual language is his abstract use of colour—applied not for realism, but to evoke emotion, atmosphere, and spiritual depth. His colours often serve as metaphors: bursts of light amidst darkness, calm tones against chaos, and layers of texture that mirror internal struggles or quiet victories. This intuitive approach to colour elevates his work beyond literal representation, drawing viewers into a more personal and introspective experience.

What began as a journey of experimentation during his student years has grown into a practice rooted in purpose. Kaz’s pieces are not only visually compelling but also deeply reflective, often drawing from his own conviction that beauty can be found even in pain. His work echoes a greater truth: that God’s creation—people, land, and sea—is inherently beautiful, even as the world is marked by darkness and suffering.

His goal is to point people to the reality of the often unspoken trials and struggles of the human experience, where faith in the unseen becomes the only true source of hope. In a world where we often “paint over pain” to keep going, Kaz's work gently urges us to consider the possibility of true restoration—a return to wholeness made possible by something greater than ourselves.

Kaz Johnson-Salami’s art invites viewers to think beyond what meets the eye—to confront the weight of pain and suffering, yet still hold on to hope in what is not seen. Through each piece, he offers a quiet reminder that even in brokenness, there is meaning, there is beauty, and there is more.
